Academy of Culinary Arts - Temporary Faculty Positions

Position Summary & Description
The Academy of Culinary Arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applicants for two full-time, temporary 12 month faculty positions. Assignment is at our Punxsutawney campus and will include teaching all culinary arts and related courses as assigned by the department chair. Start date for the position will be discussed/determined with applicants participating in the interview process.
Applicants must be competent to teach all introductory, intermediate and advanced cooking labs for the Academy of Culinary Arts program. Applicants should be knowledgeable in Academy related theory courses such as sanitation, careers, purchasing, product ID, supervision menu design, wine and beverage management, nutrition and basic baking. The successful candidate may be required to provide distance education or off-campus instruction.
Additional required activities include service to the University and Department of Culinary Arts via committee participation, student advising and research. This includes professional scholarly growth, curriculum development and volunteer activities. The department is interested in candidates who can demonstrate scholarship and leadership in a student centered environment in accordance with the collective bargaining unit.

Position Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited culinary program.
Credits earned toward a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and/or equivalent industry experience.
Have a minimum of five (5) years varied industry chef experience such as white tablecloth, fine dining, corporate dining or private club/resort environment.
Ability to demonstrate communication and computer literacy skills.
Candidate should be in position to earn or already have earned ACF certification at the CSC level or above (per ACF requirements.)
Current ServSafe Food Safety Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors or Master's Degree in related field such as; Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Business, Management or Education.
5 Years graduated industry experience advancing to Chef, Chef Manager or Executive Chef.
Teaching experience at the post-secondary or secondary level.
Lesson planning/teaching experience in hospitality and culinary related courses.
ACF certification (CSC or higher) and/or other industry certifications.
Practical baking, ice carving and ala carte service experience is also preferred.
The department is interested in candidates who have communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well during the interview(s); classroom demonstration and cooking presentation may be included. Essential Functions
The work of this position occurs in a typical office environment. Although infrequent, periods of heavy exertion may occur. Incumbent must have the following abilities:
Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public.
Use a variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, auxiliary printers and similar equipment.
Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying various weight limits.
Operate office equipment which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
Follow oral and written instructions.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
