Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for full-time and temporary, Electrician position(s). Electrician(s) for the 2018 Summer Restoration Program, Electric Shop.

This is skilled electrical work at the journey level in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.
An employee in this class is responsible for performing skilled tasks in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade. Considerable latitude is allowed in determining methods of work procedure, and employees may have lead worker responsibilities over helpers. Instructions relating to work assignments may be oral or written and may be accompanied by sketches and blueprints. Work is usually assigned by a supervisor and is ordinarily checked by observation of the performance of the equipment installed, repaired, or maintained.
Examples of duties:
Lays out and installs electrical conduits for power and lighting.
Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits.
Makes repairs to electrical motors, controllers, switchboard panels, lights, power circuits, and electrical generators.
Installs open and concealed wiring and lighting fixtures.
Maintains and repairs sterilizers, unit heaters, fans, floor scrubbers, circulating pumps, refrigeration units, food mixers, slicers, dishwashers, and other electrical equipment and appliances at state-owned institutions.
Repairs motors, relays, switches, and controls.
Functions as a lead worker over employees by assigning work, providing assistance, conducting on-the-job training, and reviewing the work foradherence to standards.
Inspects and maintains tunnel carbon-monoxide analyzing and recording
Inspects and maintains ventilating fans, intercommunications systems, fire
alarm systems, traffic control lights, and tunnel lighting systems.
Performs related work as required.

Position Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, and practices of the electrical trade.
Knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade including high voltage work.
Knowledge of the electrical rules and regulations of the Commonwealth.
Ability to care for and use standard tools, equipment, and testing devices of the electrical trade.
Ability to interpret the meaning of the various pilot lights on control boards.
Ability to install, alter, repair, maintain, and locate defects in a variety of electrical equipment and systems.
Ability to interpret and to work from technical sketches and blueprints.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions.
Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
The salary for this position is determined by the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement. External applicants will be offered the minimum rate of pay for this position which is $16.79 per hour.
Minimum Education and Training
Four years experience in the electrical trade, or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
Essential Functions
This position is heavily involved in outdoor activity and has periods of heavy exertion. Incumbents must have the following abilities:
Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
To work under a variety of adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, dust and snow.
To be able to work extended hours under adverse conditions in response to emergency conditions.
To work in hazardous situations such as around moving heavy equipment, in and around traffic, at heights, on steep grades, and on ladders and uneven surfaces.
Employee must be able to observe and react to hazardous warnings, back-up alarms, flashing lights, voice commands and hand signals.
To perform manual laboring duties such as lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
Setting up, operating, testing and measuring equipment.
Using hand tools such as hammers and pry bars, and taking and transporting material samples.
Work often requires stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
To withstand exposure to chemical agents, exhaust gases and lubricants, solvents, poisonous plants, animals, and insects and potential injuries such as bruises, scrapes, cuts, strains and sprains.
To wear all types of required protective gear such as a hard hat, footgear, hearing and eye protection, gloves and respirators.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
