Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for full-time and temporary, Plasterer position(s) in Facilities Operations for the Office of Housing and Residence Life Maintenance for the 2018 Summer Program.
Main Campus:
7:00 am - 3:00 pm
Monday - Friday
Beginning Late April, 2018 through Mid January, 2019
This is skilled work in the alternation, maintenance, and repair of plastered surfaces.
An employee in this class is responsible for the repair and maintenance of plastered surfaces and ornaments in state buildings. Work involves determining work methods and procedures, preparation of surfaces and materials, and may include designing and working from templates and molds. Work frequently requires performance of hazardous duties from scaffolding and ladders. Assignments are received in oral and written form and are frequently accompanied by rough sketches. Work is performed under general supervision and is usually inspected by a supervisor for adequacy and conformance with instructions.
Examples of work
Prepares surfaces for plastering; replaces broken metal or wooden laths, chips out broken plaster, concrete, or tile; mixes white coat or other surfacing material.
Plasters walls, ceilings, and other surfaces.
Molds and installs ornamental plaster panels and trim, stuccos and parges masonry walls.
Installs asbestos insulation and acoustic blocks.
Performs related work as required.

Position Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and practices used in the plastering trade.
Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Skill in the care and use of the tools and materials of the plastering trade.
Ability to work from templates and molds.
Ability to estimate materials required for specific assignments.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions including penciled sketches.
Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to permit climbing and working from scaffolding.
Minimum Education and Training
Four years of experience in the plastering trade, or completion of an approved apprenticeship; and such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
The salary for this position is determined by the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement. External applicants will be offered the minimum rate of pay for this position which is $16.79 per hour. Essential Functions
This position is heavily involved in outdoor activity and has periods of heavy exertion. Incumbents must have the following abilities:
Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
To work under a variety of adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, dust and snow.
To be able to work extended hours under adverse conditions in response to emergency conditions.
To work in hazardous situations such as around moving heavy equipment, in and around traffic, at heights, on steep grades, and on ladders and uneven surfaces.
Employee must be able to observe and react to hazardous warnings, back-up alarms, flashing lights, voice commands and hand signals.
To perform manual laboring duties such as lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
Setting up, operating, testing and measuring equipment.
Using hand tools such as hammers and pry bars, and taking and transporting material samples.
Work often requires stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
To withstand exposure to chemical agents, exhaust gases and lubricants, solvents, poisonous plants, animals, and insects and potential injuries such as bruises, scrapes, cuts, strains and sprains.
To wear all types of required protective gear such as a hard hat, footgear, hearing and eye protection, gloves and respirators.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
