Position Summary & Description
Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for full-time and temporary Custodial Worker(s) 1 position in Facilities Operations - Office of Housing and Residence Life for the 2018 Summer Restoration Program, Housekeeping.

Beginning Mid May, 2018 through Late August, 2018
This position provides professional and courteous service to the university community. Responsibilities include responding to the custodial needs and requests of the building manager; locking and unlocking building entrances daily; cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining all vertical and horizontal surfaces; removing trash from around building perimeter; removing snow and applying ice melting chemicals; performing recycling functions as directed; and performing other duties as required.
An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks of an unskilled nature in connection with cleaning functions. Work involves the use of custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment, and may involve the moving and lifting of heavy furniture. Work is performed in accordance with a well established routine, and is subject to inspection during progress or upon completion for attainment of established standards of cleanliness.
Examples of duties:
Washes, waxes, dusts, and polishes floors, furniture and fixtures; cleans and polishes brass; cleans lavatories and replaces lavatory supplies; disposes of waste paper.
Shovels snow, sweeps and cleans walks, and assists in keeping immediate outside premises and building entrances in an orderly condition.
Replaces light bulbs and makes simple repairs to buildings and equipment; or reports needed repairs to crew leader or supervisor.
Moves furniture and equipment; delivers supplies; runs errands as incidental assignments.
Operates small heating plants or furnaces, removes ashes, and cleans boiler room.

Position Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to learn the materials, methods, and practices used in custodial work.
Ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Sufficient physical strength to work as custodial tasks.
Minimum Education and Training
No previous experience and training required.
Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
The salary for this position is determined by the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement. External applicants will be offered the minimum rate of pay for this position which is $13.23 per hour. Essential Functions
This position is heavily involved in outdoor activity and has periods of heavy exertion. Incumbents must have the following abilities:
Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
To work under a variety of adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, dust and snow.
To be able to work extended hours under adverse conditions in response to emergency conditions.
To work in hazardous situations such as around moving heavy equipment, in and around traffic, at heights, on steep grades, and on ladders and uneven surfaces.
Employee must be able to observe and react to hazardous warnings, back-up alarms, flashing lights, voice commands and hand signals.
To perform manual laboring duties such as lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
Setting up, operating, testing and measuring equipment.
Using hand tools such as hammers and pry bars, and taking and transporting material samples.
Work often requires stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
To withstand exposure to chemical agents, exhaust gases and lubricants, solvents, poisonous plants, animals, and insects and potential injuries such as bruises, scrapes, cuts, strains and sprains.
To wear all types of required protective gear such as a hard hat, footgear, hearing and eye protection, gloves and respirators.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
